The Run

confidence beckons as I run far away

            unloading pain and fear along the way

my breath grows heavy the further i have gone

            releasing everything that went horribly wrong

i don’t look back as i am tempted to do

            knowing that only death awaits going back to you

 

each step brings more clarity and purpose of will

            i’ll do it right next time as i reach safety just over that hill

so i pick up my stride, determination filling my soul

            the further away I get the more i am whole

with the wind in my hair my smile grows

            where this new road leads, no one knows

 

i don’t leave it all on the road as i run

            there are lessons to hold on to, not many, but some

always follow your gut not your head

            not what you think or what your best friend said

remember you are precious and what you are worth

            a lovely treasure that graces this earth

 

determination rising, my trot turns into a sprint

            the sun rising gives me a glimpse, a hint

now that i have left and my heart is free

            i can learn to trust and be with someone who truly loves me

the kind of love that is genuine and safe

            it is with him, the rest of my life i will race
